Things I Am Passionate About

Piano – I have been composing ever since I messed up a piano performance at the age of 14; I figured that playing my own music would prevent people spotting mistakes; it worked, and I have launched 5 piano albums on Spotify & Apple Music ever since. I have also given more than 10 piano concerts playing my own music, the largest having been in L.A. in 2017 when I launched my 5th album in front of 4,000 people.

Entrepreneurship – I got the entrepreneurship bug from my father, a professor in Physics and Informatics, who at the age of 65 proved that an ingenious scientific idea can disrupt an entire market. I have started 5 companies ever since, with 1 having been a great learning experience and 4 having done really well. I thus love being in Silicon Valley now, where I can feel the entrepreneurship energy everywhere.

Science & Engineering – I always loved physics and maths; in fact, I won a few Olympics back in Germany and can talk about the universe for eternity. As for being an engineer, well, that was really an accidental turn in my professional life but I turned out surprisingly good in shaping and predicting the engineering future.

Cross-Disciplinarity for Social GoodI love building things and envisaging technologies which are for the greater social good. The cross-disciplinary work we have done with the team on combing 5G technologies with the arts (coming up with new art forms with the Young Vic / National Theatre) and with health (contributing to 5G-enabled telesurgery) are some of my fondest memories in my professional life.

At Home – I love skiing, constructing and building DIY things at home, gardening my plants, cooking paella for larger crowds, having a good laugh and partying, and driving my Tesla.

Our Flagship Project

Really proud to be contributing to a societal use-case saving lives through 5G-enabled robotic telesurgery ❤️.

Robotic surgery was pioneered 40 years ago and brought to market 30 years ago; telesurgery via fiber was pioneered 20 years ago and 10 years ago I pioneered the notion of using (the much cheaper and equally performant) 5G technologies. Our work back then was e.g. covered by CNN and Telecoms.

Zoom forward to 2024, we are now bringing this concept to the U.S. market, working with the entire medical, robotic, networking and FDA ecosystem: 4 Feb 2024, we showcased an unparalleled live telesurgery, 5G & fiber connecting a surgeon over a staggering distance of more than 10,000 kilometers, from Orlando to Dubai.

In the U.S., however, we focus on endovascular and laparoscopic emergency procedures where the patient has no time in reaching the right medical skills. Almost half a million people in the U.S. alone either die or remain disabled for life due to stroke and heart attacks. My dream is to bring this number down to zero.

The moment we save the first patient using 5G-enabled robotic telesurgery, I can retire!
